After breaking the terms laid out in the Treaty of Versailles multiple times, and then directly breaking the Munich Agreement, it was obvious that Appeasement had failed when Germany invaded Poland, forcing Britain and France to stick to their word and aid the Poles. While they were just trying to avoid war and fix some of the extreme effects of the Treaty of Versailles, the British and French had actually set the stage for the biggest war in history. Germany had been crippled by the Treaty of Versailles and were humiliated. Looking for redemption and reclaimed glory, Hitler was trying to build a German empire, however the British and French underestimated his ambitions and only saw his actions as efforts to rebuild the country, and they were ultimately more worried about communism in Russia. By giving in to all of Hitler's demands, Britain and France had let the crazed Germans build a war-machine and take over much of central Europe. With a dictator like Hitler controlling Germany at the time, war was inevitable, however, instead of facing a weak and small German nation left after WWI, the Allies were going up against a very powerful and large enemy that they had created. If Britain and France had taken action quickly after Germany had begun to act out, then they could have easily defeated Hitler. While the goal of Appeasement was to bring peace, it really just gave the enemy(Germany) more power and freedom to prepare for an inevitable war.
